Sound problems

Hi. I just uninstalled some packages and now my sound has stopped working. My sound card is being detected as I've compiled support for it into my kernel 2.6.13. However, I can't hear anything. Can anyone tell me what packages are required for the sound to work properly? For clarity, I'm not using ALSA. And my sound card is a C-Media PCI 8738.

Run "alsamixer" in a terminal. If it works, then the sound card is detected correctly. Then use alsamixer to unmute ("m" key) Master and PCM channels, and increase the volume on those. Sound defaults to muted :)

Yeah, I, I don't think the sound it muted. Anyway, I'll try again and let you know. But my sound card is detected, that's not the problem. I get absolutely no error my mplayer, KDE. They all say everything's fine. Arts is running. I'm stumped.

If there aren't any sound errors, then it pretty much has to be that the channels are muted.

Though, Arts could be causing problems, like it always does. Disable it, it's the devil.
