Sound for TP560z

I have set up a IBM thinkpad 560z for my high school daughter to use for her schoolwork. I have used SuSE 9.0 and everything works real well except the sound. Being in high school she would like to listen to her mp3's while she does her home work. I would like to accomodate her but have not been able to. I have doen some googling and see this is a noted problem with this computer and linux. Has anyone made the soune work with this LT? If so would you please share your knowledge?
