Sound Device for HP Pavilion zv6000

Hi there, I'm incredibly new to all this home computing stuff and wonder if somebody can help me. I recently bought the above HP Pavilion and had to reinstall XP as it wasn't working properly. I now have everything I want on it but no sound, can someone let me know if I've done something wrong.

Much appreciated.

Do you want to sound to work in Linux, or windows?

what distro do you use?

Do you know at all what kind of sound-card you are using?
