sound conflicts ?

I've got gnome DE running on debian 2.6.8.

While in gnome, i cannot use rhythmbox or any other software to play mp3's
because i get the error:

"OSS device '/dev/dsp' is already in use by another program"

...sigh...

Any help apreciated!
