Sound applications for postprocessing recordings

Hi!

I have several recordings which I have made during lectures at the university with my mobile phone. They are quite noisy, and I now want to to clean them up a bit, remove background noise etc. That is why I'm looking for a program which can help me doing just that.

Does anyone of you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance :D

I use Audacity for editing sound recordings. There is a web site here -->http://audacityteam.org/

It has documentation and a wiki.

Thanks :D

I forgot to mention, I've already tried Audacity and Ardour (spelling?). Audacity crashes every time I try to run the Noise Reduction plug-in (apparently it's a bug: http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-m.../msg02089.html). And Ardour, well, it's a bit too complex for me, so I have no idea where I am supposed look for a noise removal tool :P

Nonetheless, thank you very much for your suggestion, camorri ;)
