Somewhat poor speed

I have noticed that my linux lags a bit when loading apps. I run a 2000+ with 512 pc 2700 ram and a somewhat slow hd. I have recompiled my kernel with the bare running, I run a compiled version of fluxbox and the ATi drivers are installed, so I know it isn't that. I was wondering if there was a way to get a little more speed out of this, given it is slower than windows for app launching.

Its going to lag a little bit buddy, but it shouldnt be like a long chunk of time. how much is is lagging?

Probably takes me about 5 seconds for StarOffice to launch. Guess I will just have to put up with the little lags, just seeing how fast I can get my linux box. Still thrilled with the way linux handles network games.

5 sec. thats nothing.... it usaully takes most apps 10 or 15 to load with freaking redhat.

Alright, that shuts me up. Slack 9.1 owns me.
