Software to repair corrupt or bad jpeg/gif files?
 
Does anyone know if there are any open source or any paid software that can recovery corrupt jpeg, tiff and gif files? Thanks!

I'm not aware of any such software but, are you sure the files are corrupt? The odd file I can understand but if you have a nunber of them then maybe the cause is that they were saved incorrectly.

What I mean is that somebody saves from an application and types in the extension rather than selects "files of type". Some programs will accept the extension and save accordingly. Others will save with the extension but the filetype will be what was in the type field of the dialog box.

So the problem might be this, not corruption.

Nope...Im pretty sure its corrupt because I managed to recover these pictures from a bad hdd. Some pictures work some dont. For the ones that dont they open up half way in firefox. I think this is a lost cause. :(

Depending on the nature of the corruption you might be able to get somewhere with a good graphics program.

I'd try the Gimp and, if you have access to it, Paint Shop pro under Windows. They might be able to work around the corruption.
