Software to read DVD information

I'm looking for software that read read information from commercially sold DVDs. My number one requirement is something that can tell me the region coding for the disc, buy my ideal shopping list would include:

- region information
- number of layers
- volume label
- encoding (NTSC / PAL)

and for bonus points

- audio steams (including channels)
- duration of chapters / disc

I've tried a few things, but none of them seem able to tell me the region information. For example:
  • DVDx Info Tool - great detail, but unstable and does not give region
  • K3b - simple info presented easily, but does not give region or audio streams
  • Kaffeine - pain to get anything
  • VLC - presents basic information, but no region
  • etc.

Can anyone suggest a tool that might be able to help?

Stuart

i wrote lsdvd, which is meant to do what you're asking for, I *THINK* it handles regions, but I've not touched it for 4 years so can't honestly remember! Plenty of other people use it a whole heap though.

lsdvd certainly outputs some good stuff (much like DVDx Info Tool, except slightly less visually obvious and a damn sight more reliable), but I'm afraid that it still seems to miss that all-important region information.

Any more suggestions?

Stuart
