Software Raid--mandrake.
Hello all, got 4x 47gb scsi drives hooked up with mandrake 9.0
How on earth do set them up to run as a RAID 5 configuration? SPeed isn't THAT important, so software RAID5 shouldn't be a problem. Can someone point me in the direction of a STEP BY STEP GUIDE FOR LINUX RAID NEWBIES? thanks. |
The Linux Documentation Project, great place to FTFM (Find the f*** manual!)

Ok, but
can someone direct me to a MANDRAKE SPECIFIC RAID INSTALLATION GUIDE for BRAND NEW SYSTEM. I have 4 47gb seagate Ultra SCSI drives on an Adaptec AAA-133 card (3 channel Ultra Scsi Raid card. I put in Mandrake CD, boot up, all drives detected OK. If I let Mandrake automatically pick what drive to install on, it only formats the First drive and does nothing to the others. So I choose Expert Mode. Of course, I'm no expert. In Expert Mode I can choose a TON of options. Once I choose to create a partition on a drive, I can choose TYPE: Linux RAID. What exactly does this do? is it RAID 0, 1, 5 ? What exactly does a correct Linux RAID 5 setup look like interms of formatted drives, like / /swap /usr /???? also, if I choose all drives to be Linux RAID, it makes gives all drives a different mount point: 2nd drive is /var 3rd is like home/xxx i forget 4th is like home/xxx2 i forget name please help me out---this is really just Mandrake specific. I'm installing Mandrake 9.0 (I'll update it when it's installed) thanks for your time. |
Did you ever figure this stuff out? I'd be interested in the answer myself.
