Due to the community nature of this help site, we don't do the "I need help please e-mail me the answer" type of posts. The answers are to be published in the threads to benefit anyone else whom might have a similar problem in the future.

As for the question... if your asking what I think your asking then perhaps you should tell us what program you are dealing with. Is there a specific feature or something that doesn't appear to be working? Some detail would be helpful.

If the file is an rpm and you are using Fedora Core 3.x then you should be able to install it using "rpm -i file.rpm".

The important thing is that it doesn't spit out any dependency conflicts as that means it wasn't installed. If it does complain about missing dependencies then you are going to have to find them and install them.

Under Slackware I'm afraid you can't use rpm to do dependencies because Slackware isn't an rpm based distribution. You can still install things using "rpm -if file.rpm" (providing you installed the Slackware rpm package) but there is a chance you will have dynamic library problems when you try and run the program.

yes this is what i am talking about there are dependency issues and i don't understand the rpm thing. I stated that i use slackware and i don't know the differences on installation. If i can find the .gz version of the program will i be able to install it like on slackware?
I can understand the slackware installation not the RPM thing.

Ya, if there is a .tgz or Slackware package version it should install just fine under Slackware. If you can give us a list of the failed dependencies we can most likely help you with getting the software install in FC as well.

If you don't mind me asking, what piece of software are you trying to install?

at this moment the computer is acrost the campous and i can get to it later to day.
thanks for the help thus far. i will try to use my installation knowlege of slack and make the computer conform. I don't know why there would be dependancy isses because he bought the system from a company. and the comany sent him two different versions of the install package. he also got the linux from the same company.

OK - I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest you start a new topic about this, as yours has nothing whatsoever to do with the 4 month old topic at hand that you revived. Might I also suggest including more information in your post, such as a distribution and server-type.
