I've been using Linux for more or less a year, so i still don't know much about Software for Linux. I've only been using Gimp for graphics, but i'm looking for a software that's more powerful, particularly on animation. Does anybody know one? If the software you recommend is made for a particular distro, please do specify which distro it is.
If you mean 3d animation, you have all the tools available for linux that movie producers have. Softimage and 3DSMax to name a few. But they cost alot of money. What in particular were you wanting to do? Most movies are now made with linux, so you won't be limited in options.
Distribution: Gentoo 2004.2: Who needs exmmpkg when you have emerge?
You could use Blender, but I hear it has a steep learning curve... Flash has a Linux port, so you can use that for 2D stuff. Maya is also ported, but $10000 dollars isn't very reasonable unless you're working under a contract .
see, i'm into drawing stuff. okay, so no hope there... how about a good software for making gif graphics? we're making some graphics for our website. we've been tinkering with gimp, but i'd very much appreciate it if somebody provided me with another software that's just as powerful, if not more.
