OK, someone was having problems with their laptop and I told them I could put Slackware on it and things would be much better. Well...I can't get it to connect to the internet now.
It's a Toshiba laptop, and it uses one of those Softlink Smart Modems. I have the slamr module installed.
Code:
# dmesg | grep slamr
slamr: SmartLink AMRMO modem.
slamr: probe 8086:24c6 ICH4 card...
slamr: mc97 codec is SIL27
slamr: slamr0 is ICH4 card.
I also have the slmodemd daemon.
Code:
# slmodemd -country=USA /dev/slamr0
SmartLink Soft Modem: version 2.9.10 Jul 10 2005 13:03:32
symbolic link '/dev/ttySL0' -> '/dev/pts/2' created.
modem 'slamr0' created. TTY is '/dev/pts/2'
Use '/dev/ttySL0 as modem device. Ctrl+C for termination.
(I linked '/dev/modem' to '/dev/ttySL0')
I used the pppsetup utility to create '/etc/ppp/options'...don't know if that's Slack specific or not. I'd give the file content, but that's a lot of typing, I don't have a way to transfer the file to this drive yet. So...I'll give the information:
Domain: cybermesa.com
Nameserver address: 65.19.11.6
Username: ****
Password: ****
Number: atdt15057474411
Callback: No
PAP: Yes
Device: /dev/modem
Doesn't work.
Code:
# ppp-go
# Connect script failed
When I start up minicom, it initializes the modem, but I get 'NO CARRIER' when I try to dial. I tried initializing with minicom, and using Ctrl-A Q to exit without resetting, and then trying ppp-go again and that didn't work either.
Anyone know how I might fix this problem? I of course made sure that the modem was plugged in to a working phone jack. I'm really confused, and from what I've read, people following the same steps with the same modem have gotten things to work beautifully. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
