So much Linux, so little time...

So, I says to myself, "Self! Time to take the Linux lunge!" Just as simple as droppin' by Lucky Larry's Linux Emporium on the way home from work, picking up the CD, and popping it into the ol' Dell. Whoa!? Too many sub-species! Where to go?! So, what's the 'vanilla' flavor of Linux, to latch onto the favored language of the in-crowd? Which door would the well advised 'newbie' peek into first?:newbie:

This thread should probobly be either in "Newbie" or "Distributions", but oh well.

For Newbie distros, look at Redhat, Mandrake, and Suse.

For "learning distros" (IMO), look at: Slackware, Debian, Gentoo.

Check out the reviews section for more help.

For learning linux commands and junk like that, once you pick a distro, go to the Links section of LQ.org.
