Very simple : $ sudo apt-get install libdnet

Snort can be installed with apt too : Version 2.9.2.2 →
→ → $ sudo apt-get install snort

Looks like a corrupt snort install, if you really mean "libraries:
libdnet.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".

No library is named `libdnet.1' !

How did you install snort ? ?
If it's a package "snort***.deb" : Full file name, please.
And a link to the location, you got it from.

And : Why don't you install 'snort' with your package manager ? ?
No Internet connection ?

Did you look at:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/snort-org/ww...nort_howto.pdf

Its for an older version of Debian, but it should help none the less.

I'd also never install Snort from a package manager because there are alot of configurable options and you get a better feel of whats going on when you do it by yourself.

If your installing Snort at a work place, be aware that this is not an install and forget about it type of project. It is time consuming, requires continued resources and networking/security knowledge. Many people turn off Snort after a period of time because of too many false-positives.
