Hello all!

I´m looking for a good software for sniffing packets outside my network. For like sniffing other IP´s. Are there any softwares that can do this. I´m a newbie to security and I´d like to study some more.

I´ve used tcpdump recently but I think tcpdump only sniffs packets that interact with my LAN. I would like to, for example, type an IP and sniff that IP. What is the best software for doing this? If it can be done with tcpdump, can anybody show me the command line/procedure for accomplishing it.

P.S.: Can Ethereal do that?

Unless the packets are being routed to your LAN for some ungodly reason, this is simply not possible. Tcpdump and ethereal can only see the packets coming to your machine.

I'm going to close this thread as I think it treads dangerously close to illegal activities.
