SMTP problem - "No recipients given"

Hi, I have been trying to get my webserver to be able to send email for a few hours now and I am about to pull my hair out. I have installed msmtp, set up the configuration file and chmod 600 the file. Nothing that is php based is able to send email. The individual utilities act as though they have "An email has been sent....." but I'm getting "No recipients given" in my error log. This is happening with NUMEROUS CMS's, Guesbook utilities, just about anything I can think of that uses php mail statement. Any help is greatly appreciated

Edit: I have also tried numerous php.ini configurations in the Mail section

Why do you need msmtp? I don't get it.
Install an SMTP server on that machine, at least as a sattelite system. I recommend postfix.
Then PHP (and everything else) will be able to send e-mail the usual way, e.g. invoking /usr/bin/sendmail.

I was leaning toward msmtp to avoid overkill. I wasn't attempting to create a full mail server, just setting something up to use an existing smtp account so that my box can email me logs, notices, etc... If I need to go the full route of setting up postfix or sendmail then I suppose I will have to, It was just suggested that msmtp would suit my needs.
