SMB/network issue

I am using 10.1 suse and umm having problem with detecting network for windows i have couple of desktops with a network and i am trying to get linux on that same server but it keeps on saying that firewall settings are not allowin it but if i go into konqueror and type in smb://192.168.1.100 or smb://192.168.1.102 i see the shared folders and i have already allowed linux to access in windows firewalls yet if i go into network browsing and click on "smb share" it gives me error "Unable to find any workgroups in your local network. This might be caused by an enabled firewall." any suggestions. :Pengy:

what is more likely is that the workgroup or domain name in your samba config is different from the windows one. The eason smb:/ipaddress works, is becuase you are using the ip address not netbios check that fist and see if that solves the problem

Your Smaba config contains all that data, you can edit it manually using a text editor it is located somewhere in the /etc directory and the file will be named smb.conf or you can use something like swat, or webmin, or in KDE control panels. It is pretty easy the setting is named workgroup, if I recall correctly. The defuault workgroup name for XP home is "MSHOME" the default for XPPro is "Workgroup" but they may be different if you set it up that way. YOu will need to restart samba following the change and give it time to propogate throughout the network after samba forces an election for workgroup browse master. The propogation can take up to 24 hours if I recall correctly.
