Smart Boot Manager wont boot dos on logical part.
The readme says it will boot dos from a logical partition.
I formatted with the /s switch, this usually works with a
primary partition. It wont boot. Just says `starting msdos`.
Has anybody else got it booting dos from a logical partition?

Um, since I started with DOS in '84, I know a bit here.
Which makes me suspect that you will need to first *create* the DOS partition as a real, true, physical partition, ending below 8192MB and at less thancylinder 1024 of some hdrive. Then you should be avble to move it with some tool that knows this new ability to boot a --logical-- DOS partition.
Yes, I suspect you need to do *all* that; sorry, just that DOS is primitive (didn't I see Barney Rubble using it once? ( ) (Fred Flintstone's friend/neighbor)).
DOS & WhinedoZZZe tools *WILL* convert the partition somewhat whilst relocating it to --logical--; this might or might not make it unbootable thereafter.
LOL!,

I`ve been experimenting with gag and Xosl for a while now.
I don`t think they will boot from a logical partition(I tried).
Thats what got me interested in sboot. It says it will but
I can`t get it to do it. Right now i`m using older small hds
for testing but I have thought about using a 40gig drive
to run all my old systems on.

As mentioned, it used to be you could only boot from a primary below cylinder 1024 - must be first hard disk too BTW.
This was partly due to specific checks in the loader code, and partly due to the use of the old INT13 (function code 2) to read the disk.
If you have loader code that "fudges" the loader (MBR) code, you might get away with Win98 in a logical partition, so long as it resides within cylinder 1024. The code in the partition is unlikely to rerun the location checks, but probably still uses the old INT13 to complete the boot-strap.
