slow system after compiling Xfree86 4.3...

Hi!

I've been running Red Hat 9 and a friend of mine said " you should compile xfree86 from source you'll win performance" and so i compiled xfree86 4.3. and i installed the drivers from ati (i have a radeon 8500), the problem is that i have not won performance, my mozilla takes about 8 seconds to open up and i'm running on a P4 2.4 Ghz 512 Ram so i don't see any need for those 8 seconds. mozilla always took about 3-4 seconds loading but now it's a lot worst. is there anyway for me to get better performance through compiling the xfree? Thx in advance for all the help.

Best Regards,

John Silva
