slow boot up


Every time when bootup my RH Linux server , it always very slow to startup the system services - sendmail and smclient , even I press ctr-c still can't break it up , could suggest what is the reason why it very slow to startup these services and how to fix it ? thx

this happens on redhat when sendmail can't determine the canonical name of the host (I believe). if you edit sendmail.cf and set it manually sendmail and sm-client should start faster

You could always fool around with parallel booting sendmail. Look for where it is called in your init scripts, then add & to the end to start it as a background process. If nothing else relies on it, normal booting should be able to continue. I did this with my firewall and hotplug scripts and it worked well.
