Question SLES 9 did not install to the partition I created

Hi everyone.

The setting is like this. I installed 2 IDE hard disk into my PC. One is an 8.4GB and the other is 30GB. Now I tried to install SLES 9 and go to the Expert Partitioner and selected the 8.4GB. Now I created around 4.8GB for the root (/); then around 600MB for the swap file and the rest as an extended partition. Now I let the 30GB be as it is - meaning I did not partition it.

SO I proceeded to the installation and wait until the the PC reboots but then I am getting a lot of error and the sytem does not boot. So I tried to reinstall the OS and I found out that the OS itself created a nother root and another swap partitions on the 30GB hdd. Also on the 8.4GB hdd those partions that i created are also there.

Why is this?

Hope someone can explain me this. Thanks..

Start over....

Somewhere you missed some steps--the installer will typically tell you what disk and partition it is going to install Linux on.

Make sure you note what the installer says it is going to do at each step.....

Also, you did not mention where you put the boot loader. If on a hard drive, it has to be on the FIRST drive. If that's not where you put Linux, then it won't work.

finally, please tell us exactly what error messages you get if it does not work next time.

Thank you very much fr your reply. But right now i was able to install the OS correctly. Yes you are correct I miss to install the boot loader.

By the ways is there a way for me to enter some DNS entry like that of Windows in SLES 9? Because right now I have a PC which I install SLES 9. All the rest are using Windows OS'es. My problem is that I cannot connect to the internet. Now in Windows we only have to enter the IP's for the gateway and on the DNS. Since the office uses a DSL router to connect to the internet. SO there a same way for me to do that in SLES 9?
