Slackware--trying to compile and install libdvdcss and gxine

After using puppy and different Ubuntu derivatives, as well as trying out a few random distros like tinycore, I've recently installed slackware 13.0. Part of the reason was to learn more about compiling and how Linux works.

Not too surprisingly, gxine and Mplayer wouldn't play dvds, so I decided to mess around with xine, since it works in puppy on the same machine.

I downloaded libdvdcss-1.2.9.tar.bz2, unpacked it, copied the resulting directory to /, then did ./configure && make && install, but there doesn't seem to be a libdvdcss files other than libdvdcss.spec in the directory which I unpacked.

Nothing from the configure or make commands seemed problematic, although I could have missed all sorts of non-obvious problems.

Eventually, I plan to do the same with xine. I've tried already, but it hasn't worked either.

Dude to a web page called http://www.linuxpackages.net, very nice people publish slackware packages on this page, look for libdvdcss package for your Slackware version once is downloaded install it with the command installpkg and you are done. Another thing I would recommend you to check out the Slackware forum that this question must probably have come up in the past.

I recommend the slackbuilds instead, they should always work, whereas linuxpackages don't always work right.
