slackware gnome resolution

Hi, in MS windows my monitor does 1280x1024 as its default and it looks perfect. In gnome slackware 9.0 i can only attain 1024x768 and it looks big and ugly, how can i go about changing my resolution to 1280x1024? X11 config ive ran and ive also edited the file configuration file, says i have no monitor when i try that.. ? And the gnome applet doesnt go any higher then 1024x768? Thanks

Hi, I had this exact same problem with slackware 9.1 last week - I couldn't get it out of 1024x768 until I downloaded the latest linux drivers for my graphics card. I know Nvidia and ATi have linux drivers on their site, other cards should too.

Just follow the readme with the drivers, and then you should be able to choose a higher resolution. This also depends on which XF86Config file you are using, as you may need to manually edit this too (I did for Nvidia but the instrcutions were clear).

Hope I help more than I hinder!
