Slackware Bootsplash

So I've been trying to install bootsplash (bootsplash.org) so I can get a nifty bootscreen. I'm running slackware-current (updated from 12.2) with kde 4.3. My problem lies in compiling the kernel for the bootsplash. I am running kernel 2.6.29.1 and I am trying to compile kernel 2.6.21. I used make menuconfig (i tried xconfig but that just threw a bunch of errors) and make bzImage. I downloaded the kernel from kernel.org. While compiling I kept getting an "internal compiler error: segmentation fault" (i got about 30+ of these errors). It appeared that I could just continue where make left off by running it again, so I did, and I finally came upon a new error message...
Code:
kernel/built-in.o: In function `getnstimeofday':
(.text+0xd841): undefined reference to `__umoddi3'
kernel/built-in.o: In function `do_gettimeofday':
(.text+0xd8f6): undefined reference to `__udivdi3'
kernel/built-in.o: In function `do_gettimeofday':

kernel/built-in.o: In function `do_timer':

kernel/built-in.o: In function `do_timer':
(.text+0xe334): undefined reference to `__umoddi3'
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1
this is frustrating me as i've been trying to install this bootsplash since I changed to slackware. Please, I will not give up trying to install the bootsplash so your help will be appreciated I hope I gave you all the information.

Also I have tried several versions of adobe flash player but I can't view video on nbc.com (i.e. nbc.com/The_Office/video/) and my video is extremely slow. I'm running 768 mb ram and pIII - 1 ghz.
