Slackware 9.1 Alsa Wine issues

ok, so i read on the wine site that alsa and wine do not play nicely. and i have a slackware 9.1 install here, which i believe uses alsa for sound. anyone get either 9.1 or another alsa distro to work with wine? i hate having to boot into redhat to play CS!

update

i have wine working, but my HL, CS, and Unreal (the original) games have a sound delay. i think this may be a wine issue, any ideas? worth mentioning, the HL says 'using secondary sound buffer' when i start a game, how do i get it to use the primary buffer?
