Just installed Slackware 8.1 and am having problems with compiling programs. It appears the ld has issues with missing libraries?? It returns "/usr/i386-slackware-linux/bin/ld: crt1.0 : invalid file or directory" ive been told that libararies are missing but am not sure?

Did you do a full install? What program are you trying to compile? It's very rarely that slackware systems have compiling problems, and then it's a matter of installing the missing library first, but it looks like you have a bad ld, because i never encountered such a error before. Did you install from a burned CD?
