When calling people my voice is received with LOWERED pitch, like a looney would call for ransom. Is there a way to fix this or a work-around, like maybe changing the sample rate of sound recorded via mike?

Will appreciate any help, I need skype for my work. Thank you in advance

Try the mixer control, either in your desktop's Multimedia menu or alsamixer from the command line. Make sure you select the right sound card (you might be presented with more choices than you thought you had) and then adjust the microphone volume.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I just started having the same problem yesterday!!! I have a Blue Yeti USB microphone with headset jack (so it comes across as an entire sound card) that used to work perfectly. I changed the USB cable but even with the original one I'm having this issue where my voice sounds lowered, slowed down, really psycho!

If record myself locally (with mhWaveEdit) I sound perfect; and the sound coming through from the Skype Echo Test announcer is fine; but when the Echo Test replays my voice it sounds psycho.

I've done some work lately getting automount and digiKam (and kipi plugins) to work. I don't expect that would have any effect but I did add the oxygen-icons package for KDE and the sane package for acquiring images from scanners.

Please tell me there's a simple fix to this issue; or that it's a problem at Skype's end there's nothing for me to do!

So it works now! Skype gave me a half-dozen choices for each audio device - and I guess I picked the wrong Blue Yeti from the list because I tried with the first one on the list and it works perfectly now. Coincidence?
