Skype 2.1.0.81 Beta, Mandriva One 2009.0 and echo effect at people's I talk with

Hello,

I have following problem. Everything's working fine at my side (Linux).
I can hear what the other speaker says to me and I am heard as well,
but (I've checked it with 5 contacts) the problem is at the other side.
Speakers, who, all, use Windows have echo. That is, what they say to their mic is repeated in their loudspeakers, there's no such effect when they talk between themselves (Windows to Windows), so the problem
must be, probably, at my side.I thought that it's about my mic gathering sound from my loudspeakers and sending it back to the speaker but I connected headphones and it changed nothing. All devices in Skype
(loudspeakers, mic) are connected through PulseAudio server, there are no other possibilities.

Some people put up with it but some prefer, because of that, to talk with me, writting.

What's the problem?. Did You run into such problem?.

Thank You for answer,

This is a truly wild guess.

In an xterm or console window, run
alsamixer

check it is showing you the Playback view - heading should contain:

View: [Playback] Capture All

Now use right-arrow to move sideways along the x-axis. If you find any column with the word Mic in it, press M to mute it. That's right - for most usage, the Mic should be muted in the playback view. Of course, if there is a Mic column(s) in the [Capture] view, one of those should not be muted - but your [Capture] is already correct since you say your Mic is working.

OK, I got alsamixer running. I've got:

Card: PulseAudio
Chip: PulseAudio
View: [Playback] Capture All
Item: Master

Right arrow is not working, I can increase and decrease volume with up and down arrows.
But I can change from Playback to Capture to All with Tab key.

In Playback I have vertical chart of volume with 00, under it are numbers:
78<>78
<Master> - master is in red
now I press Tab:
I've got vertical chart of volume with L and R on the sides, under it
is inscription: CAPTUR, under it is:
50
<Capture >
now I press Tab again and I'm in All section:
I've got two volume charts, on the left is Master (set to 78) and on the right is CAPTUR - L and R on the sides (set to 50).

That's all. There's no mic. That's how things look like. What am I supposed to do now?.

Thank You for answer.

strange that right-arrow is not working. I suggest press the
?
key and hopefully you will see a panel with help for what keyboard keys do what on you window. Also if you were using a console window, try an xterm, or vice-versa - maybe the keys will work better.

And now back to your original problem. You need to be able to view *every* column in the [Playback] view, to check settings for any columns described as Mic or Mic1 or anything with Mic in it, and mute each one you find if not already muted. You reported the setting of one column, <Master>. What about the others? Surely that was not the only column in that view? But I don't know what others you have - it depends on your hardware and also maybe on the version of alsa. Also even if you don't see any others named ?Mic?, there could be one beyond the visible area.

You can also a line-mode version of the command called amixer :
amixer -i controls
amixer -i contents

but much harder to interpret the output.

My version of AlsaMixer is v1.0.18rc3. I've run alsamixer in xterm as well, results are the same: there's no mic anywhere. Right arrow doesn't work there either. I can only change with Tab key between Playback, Capture and All and, unfortunately, mic is nowhere to be found. There's only Master or Capture or Master and Capture. Nothing else.
