Skydome background doesn't work with compiz/gnome unless I use the compiz fusion icon

Actually there are a number of settings that do not work when I configure compiz with gconf/GL Desktop yet those settings all work when I have the compiz fusion icon running. (When I have the fusion icon running the gconf setting are unused. To clarify, all the settings I configure with CCSM will be applied rather than the settings in gconf when I am running the fusion icon). Anyway, another problem I am having is that when I define a background for the skydome using CCSM I will see the background and everything looks fine. However, when I do not have the compiz fusion icon running any time I define a background for the skydome, using gconf or GL Desktop, all I see as a background is the default gradient rather than my background image. I have tried to unset the two keys (gradient start and gradient end) yet I still do not see my background but instead that default gradient. Thanks for reading,

I'm having exactly the same problem, after a fresh installation of Fedora 9.
Any suggestion on how to correct this issue?

Pepe
