Simple XWindows API for C under linux..

Basically i want to make a very simple xwindows application..

I'm competent command line programmer, but don't know where to start when writing an X windows app.. Is there anything like the Java Swing API?

Thanks

James

One of the most common widget libraries for X in the C language is libgtk+ (and libgnome which extends it).

The most similar thing to the Java Swing API that I have yet used (outside of Java) is the Qt toolkit (extended by libkde), which is for C++ (although it also uses a meta-object compiler). C++ is not much different from C, and should be fairly easy to learn the basics of if you know Java.
