Simple Question with Getting my DM booting.

I just installed Gentoo with help from the guide, but it pretty much left me by myself for getting X up, I emerged gnome, but I don't have gnbome for somereason, I emerged fluxbox, and gdm, I can get gdm to let me run fluxbox fine, but I have two questions.

How do I get gdm (and Xwindows) to start on boot?
when I ran XDM, it was ugly (looked like a black and white grid), if it isn't supposed to do this, is xdm a better choice of DM is I am planning to use mostly fluxbox?

Thanks.

Been to here for doco ???.
Has both a X and Gnome (separate) howto.

The Gnome one has the info for setting up your desktop to start automagically.

I could not find that, thanks, I had it mostly figured out (getting the boto script, etc.) but now I feel I thrashed my /etc/X11/Sessions and tons of ~/.x* files :S
