Smile simple command


ok - I am VERY new here...from a shell prompt what is the command to create a directory? I am from the old DOS - Assembly Language days...all i know is md...

Howdy,

You were close, it's mkdir.
If you need to make parent directories, use the -p .
For example:
mkdir testing
mkdir -p /home/stuff/testing/more/stuff/junk

You can get more info on commands from the manual pages....
man mkdir
man sed
man tar
man man


ps, it's a bad idea to post the same thread more than once.

you should also read the commands page over at LQ Wiki.

It will give you an idea of many basic commands that you'd find useful when working in the CLI.
