SIGSEGV from kpilot -- how to get past it

As soon as kpilot starts syncing my Zire, it gives me a SIGSEGV error. Since kpilot itself thinks there's a bug, it's hard for me to see how this could be my fault, especially since it used to work. I've reported the bug, but in the meantime is there any way I can get past it and do the synchronization?

I'm running Kubunto 8.04 Hardy Heron.

Did it work with the current distro install? What did you change in the Zire or on the host since it stopped working?

Palm devices are notorious for this behaviour, in my opinion and from what I've read. Post your exact model of Zire in case someone (unfortunately not me I have a Tungsten E2) has gotten your particular model of Zire to work with your particular kernel and distro.

Distro and model

I hadn't done a sync for a while, so it might well be that the last one I did was under Gutsy Gibbon. Other than upgrading to Hardy Heron, I can't think of any changes I've made that might be relevant. As to the Zire, I believe it was one of the early ones, since it says Zire on it and nothing else.

Hmm, well, my next step would be to install pilot-link, http://www.pilot-link.org/ and see if it works, if not check /var/log/messages to see if the device is detected at all when you push the sync button. You can try jpilot and gpilot as well, sometimes, apparently they all behave slightly differently...

There are all kind of workarounds that have been tried for different devices. You've probably seen this:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PDADeviceList
and this
http://howtos.linuxbroker.com/howtor...mOS-HOWTO.html
which is old but good background
