Does man halt or man shutdown tell?

I use shutdown -h now myself as that is what I started with several years ago.

I use shutdown -h now on my boxes I think that if you use the shutdown command instead of halt. It will halt your system then power it down, while just halt will bring the system down but not power your box down.

I could be wrong and probably am, if anyone knows the real answer I am carious to know as well

neither powers down my box.
I looked up the page and it seems that halt invokes shutdown, though I'm probably wrong

I think the same as LoungeLizard. If you use halt, before shutting down everything, it says "Power down".

If your ATX PC won't shut off the power when you invoke 'halt' etc, then try loading the apm module first.
