Severe Mandrake 9.0 bug

OK, hopefully this is my last question for a while. I have two computers which had Mandrake 9.0 installed. On my home computer, every now and then, my keyboard and mouse would stop functioning, forcing me to reset my computer in order to get them to work properly again. For the longest time I thought that it was a problem with my new motherboard, so I just brushed it off. Well, about a week ago I installed Mandrake 9.0 on my work computer and encountered a similar bug where my mouse would stop working. The only way to fix it is to restart the X server. So now, I don't think that what I was experiencing at home was a hardware problem.

Has anyone heard of this problem before? And, if so, what can be done to fix it? I'm not adverse to recompiling the kernel, if that's what needs to be done. I need to learn how to do that anyway. If someone can help me, I'd be grateful. Thanks in advance.

Hm.

What mobo?

And have you tried it with a different one? Some companies are really bad about motherboards, especially ones that use that accursed SiS chipset (like ECS and PCChips--sadly, I have the latter).

Mandrake did some weird stuff with my mouse during the setup, but that's probably because it was a wireless USB adapted to PS/2.
