I've seen alot of these threads about Amarok chrashing/freezing and such. I use Amarok 1.3.9 with (KDE 3.5.2) on Ubuntu dapper. I frequently experience problems with this program such as it mysteriously crashing, freezing , suddenly not able to play songs, and sometimes it's not able to use my external soundcard which, when I try say rythmbox , works fine, And sometimes it does work fine. Itseems very unstable for me. Maybe I should just update to a newer version? please help, I like this better then Rhythmbox although that never chrases for me.
yes, and Running amarok through console gives this.

Don't know what it meens, but it starts anyway after i got that message and was able to use my external soundcard.
Im gonna guess tha infamous device 168 is your external soundcard... this loooks to me more of a driver/kernel problem than an Amarok problem. Have you checked around to see if your external soundcard (whichever brand and model is, since you omitted that important info in your post ) has a history of causing problems with Alsa?
Uh... wait. Im assuming you are using alsa and maybe xine. But since you neglected to post what engine and some other vital info to debug you problem.....
How about some more detail info?
Also, I noticed that you mention that its Ubuntu you are working at, not Kubuntu. A long time ago (two years ) when I was a new Linux user and I worked with Gnome (cause it was the default in Fedora and cause I didn't know better) I learned that mixing Gnome with Kapps can be dangerous (Not the other way around - that is KDE with g-apps) specially when it comes to sound apps and anything that might want to have total control of a resource such as a soundcard.
Yes I also guessed that was the soundcard device. It's a M-audio MobilePre, and there is infact that I guess should require drivers installation to use (since it came with a drivers cd) I was using it for Windows before but recently migrated. There are Linux drivers for this device for download, but it freaking cost money to use after a while!
but anyway, I thought i wouldn't need it, because it has worked fine, and does work fine with everything else!!. Ubuntu is able to find it and use it.
I am using ALSA. In amarok settings it also says I'm using Xine. Output plugin said Autodetect, so I changed that to alsa, that's perhaps better?
I consider myself pretty much in the newbie (perhaps Rookie ) state, so I don't know really what kind of details to give. I thought the KDE thing might have something to do with it, Since I of course use Gnome, I usually try to avoid installing KDE.
