So i've done:

Yet when i alt-shift i can't get accents (though i do get other characters like ç,ñ... so i know it's working). I have tried using open office to insert accents and i see them fine. When i hit the accent key it just gives no output and if i hit a vowel afterwards it leaves it accentless. Anyone know what i could be doing wrong? (I think i might have to use another keyboard layout to be able to do this). Thanks.
