Setting up printer on Linux and printing to it from Windows

Hi,

After going through various posts on this site and on the net and after searching Google I'm still not able to get this going. The situation is as follows:

1. I have 2 machines. Win XP (named Host) and dual-boot Win XP and Suse 9.3. The dual-boot Win XP machine is named Client.
2. The machine that's connected to the internet is the "Host" and the other one gets it's IP and connects to the net using the ICS. It works like this in Linux and Win XP.
3. When I'm in Linux the ICS works just fine, I get IP, I'm able to surf and I can access the "Host".
4. I have a printer connected to the "Client". I want to be able to print to it from "Host" when I'm running Linux just as I'm able to do it when running Win XP.

How do I do this? I've tried using Yast to configure Samba but I'm not shure whether I need to configure client or server. What setting to choose? How to share the printer? After I've setup my Linux box how do I connect to it from Windows? In Windows I'd go to Start > Run > Client. How it's done in Linux.

Thank you in advance,
Goran

Is the printer configured locally on the "Client"? That's the first step. Then you'll need to setup samba to act as a server to do print serving.

Hi,

The printer is setup locally on the "client" and it works. I went to Yast > Samba Server and setup the share there. I opened the ports in firewall.

How do I access my Linux from the Windows? In Network Places I don't see it.

Thanks,
Goran

yes you set up samba so the Linux box and it's devices have addresses
the way i do the printing is : using CUPS set up an extra printer using the device you want without the driver (make it "raw") the install the windows driver for the printer on the win machine and address that printer to the cups "raw" device.
