Setting up Opera and DHCP
 

Hey, after failing to set up my Alcatel ADSl modem on hat9, I've networked my windows and this hat9 machine, I have the internet on linux, woo ! .

I cant seem to understand how to instal Opera in linux, ive run some files in terminal, as root, etc, and cant figure out what to click next.... could anyone help ?

Also, I want to set up a DHCP server in linux, I have a lan party in a few weeks, and I want the DHCP server to configure the windows machines as they are connected to the network - less hassle than manualy configuring 15 ip's - I think thats what I DHCP server does anyway... Ive instaled one from the hat9 cd's, but were is the er, 'exe' ... ? what do I launch in order to configure the DHCP server. As you can guess im a newb to all this, so go easy on me..... cheers.

( what is the file extension for a linux program ?, fe: .exe in windows )

there is no program file extension, things are done properly in unix, and don't rely on a feeble 3 letter code to tell the os what a file is. you use dhcp as a server, so you would start it via "/etc/init.d/dhcpd start" which would normally be run automatically on boot. you configure it by editing /etc/dhcpd.conf or a similar file location.

How the hell does the system know what to open the file with, or what the files contents are, or how to handle the file then ??!

If the path etc/ lar lar lar, is where the dhcp server thing is, then how would I of known that if you didnt tell me, is there like a installed proggrams list that shows the file paths to programs or something ?
