setting up mailing list


hi there

i intend to set up mailing list at my webserver

i think i can use mailman from GNU

but that requieres setting up of MTA and webserver

i do not have any idea for setting up a webserver
and whicn to use

qmail,sendmail or postfix

any suggestion for easy setup

BTW i can also use some other sites that allow me to create my ownmailing list

As far as MTA, I use Exim which is very easy for a beginner to set up (it will basically just _work_ out of the box, though not very secure). I have also heard good things about postfix though I have not used it. Sendmail is probably not the best choice for someone new at setting up a mail server.

As for web server, just use apache. A google for "apache linux install guide" should give you thousands of results.

Most distros will have packages for apache and your MTA of choice already to go by installing the RPM or apt-get or emerge or whatever...make it easy on yourself...
Just make sure your mailserver is not an open relay...

i wantd to know about some sites which will allow me to setup my own mailing lists

i got one at
freelists.org and google groups

the freelists site though is not working fine for me
