setting up java

Hello,

I am using netscape on RedHat 8 and I have gotten my browser to point to the java plugin so that it shows up when i go help/about plugins. I thought that this was going to allow me to view java pages but now when I try and view a page requiring java the browser freezes and i am required to logout. Is there something i can do to fix this?

thanks

When you get aboutlugins what version does it show you are using? Also, which plugin did you point to?

Cool

What I mean is what's the path to the .so file you pointed to Also, which version of netscape are you using?

There are different plugins for different versions.

Cool

Code:
 libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /usr/local/bin/java/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so
For example, that's the path to my plugin, and it works just fine.

hmmm....

Make sure your user has at least read permissions on the plugin. Here's the permissions I have:
Code:
ls -l /usr/local/bin/java/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/
total 272
-rwxr-xr-x 1 masterc users 272957 Aug 29 2002 libjavaplugin_oji.so
I actually owned the file to my user and group users, I wouldn't suggest doing that though

Cool

They probably need read/execute permissions:
chmod -R 755 /usr/java

And make sure you user can execute on the directory:
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

What are the default permissions?

Find out with:
ls -l /usr/java
ls -l /usr/lib/mozilla (look at the plugins directory)

Also, deep directory, what are the permissions on your plugin and the directory it's in?

Post em up before you make the changes above.

Cool
