Setting up HylaFax

Hey Guys-
I am having some issues setting up HylaFax to recieve faxes.

1. Putting faxgetty in the inittab as follows: "1:2345:respawn:/sbin/faxgetty ttyS4" does not call faxgetty on init. Suggestions?
2. After I call faxgetty on ttyS4 manually, it picks up the line, but does not respond the incoming fax.
3. How do I setup users under HylaFax? I've tried every password and user name known on the system, but to no avail. HylaFax says to check the password file--where is this?

Thanks in advance- I am still a bit of a novice to linux. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
