Setting up Alsa with onboard sound i810

Hi

Can anyone help me out there?

I have been trying to set up sound (Alsa) ...I have onboard i810 chipset (Gforce 7vt600 mobo) for the past couple of weeks with no success

I wanted to know if anybody else had the same mobo and if they managed to get it working?

I have followed ALSA install instructions but still nothing...

I am running Arch linux 0.6 2.4.24-1 kernel (I have tried Arch forums but wanted to see if anyone else has had the same problem & managed to fix it)

If you need anymore information then please ask....

I don't know the answer to your problem but I noticed many ppl asking similar question here. Just do a search on LQ and maybe you will find a solution

Cheers

Hi

I am sorry but I cannot find anyone who has i810 working under Alsa ....I do think that sound is a major problem in linux...I have not yet managed to get Asla running (I must be doing something wrong) .....
So I am left to search for someone who has got it working...

I din't know if this will help but I have my sound working using 1810_audio and ac97_codec and have the i810_rng and snd-intel8x0 on the hotplug blacklist. Works great. (MSI mobo)

RE: Setting up Alsa with onboard sound i810

I was using the 2.4.22 kernel and for the life of me could not quite get it working. I am now using 2.6.1 (highly recommend) and it ALMOST works. I still use the old OSS drivers because ALSA will cause my sound to crackle at times and actually slow down and speed up randomly. I too have the i810 chipset with a Cmedia 9739 chip.

Try your luck with the 2.6.1 kernel and you may be good to go.

Nope not alsa and it's a pain sometimes but esd works so good I'm afraid to tweak on it too much.

If you are using esd then you are using Gnome....If 2.4 how do you find it?

Really good. I'm ripping some DVDs. and they're as good as the originals. Sounds great. I feel so accomplished. Didn't take but maybe a year to get the sound working right.
