I'm curious what Slackware is like, so I decided to install it. I decided to leave my windoze and Suse partitions as they are. At first, I didn't install a bootloader on the Slackware partition, because I was planning to use just the Grub that Suse installed in the MBR. I edited menu.lst, and the result is a kernel panic on slack (it says the kernel image is bad, or something). Then, I booted the slack dvd again, and chose to install lilo on the root partition. From the setup menu, everything seemed to be ok, but I can't see anything diffrent in /boot (on the slack partition).
What should I do to get it working?
I was thinking of trying to install grub with yast on the slack partition. Might that work?
And, another question for other Slackware users out there. There are about a dozen kernel types on the dvd, from which I can choose. I let it install the default one. But, what's the diffrence between them? Should I install another one?
In Slackware, did you create a directory named /initrd. Next did you use mkinitrd to create a ramdisk or initrd file. What is the filesystem(s) did you use for Slackware. Are you booting from a secondary or add-on controller like a SATA, SCSI, or an extra IDE controller.
Ah, I got it!!! I am currently posting from my newly installed Slack
Thanks again, it was the initrd thing. I just typed mkinitrd after I quit setup on the install cd.
