Setting up a new user

Hallo. I have just installed mandrake 10.1 with KDE, and I set up initially only one user. Now I need to give access to my system to other guys, so I was trying to create other users for them. I found the right place in the mandrake control center, and I set them up all right, but when I try to access the system logging in with the new users ID and password, nothing happens. The screen just shimmers for one or two seconds and than presents me again with the login menu.

I don't expext anybody to solve the problem with such vague indications, but can somebody give me at least an indication on how to begin debugging this problem?

Thanks

Hey
Open Konsole, su to root, then enter 'vipw'. Are the users there at the bottom?

This means that the username / password is wrong (KDE Why do you not just say so, instead of "shimmering"?).

You will probably remember that login names and passwords are CasE SenSitiVE!

As none of these users have managed to log in, you could just delete them (usingmandrake control centre), and then start again (watch for the caps lock!).

If this fails, have you installed all the mandrake updates? There are many updates for 10.1, which you need. Please search this site for "Easy urpmi" and follow the instructions until you can do urpmi --update --auto-select (as root). Then please try again.

Ok, thank you. It was simply that the password was somehow wrong, maybe I I capslocked when creating the new user profile...

KDE, if the password is wrong why don't you just say so instead of shimmering???!?!?!?

OK, sorry for this quite avoidable thread. Thank you and sorry for wasting your time for such a trifle problem.
