Set up ftp server with pure-ftpd

Hello there:
Iam runnign SuSE 9.0 and I just installed pure-ftpd, it's running but I can not login as root and I would like to know how to add a virtual user to "cage it" to a directory without adding a normal user account.
Thanks in advance

pure-ftp eh?

I don't use it myself, but there's a good proftp howto at the top of this page:
http://hayl.webhop.net/

(EDIT) Whoops! Wrong FTP Server....
Hope the link helps, anyways....

Thanks, that document worked but now when I try to start pure-ftpd it gives me the following error:
Unable to start a standalone server: Address already in use
Any ideas what could it be?
Thanks again

if u run a firewall u have to enable ftp connections. take a look at yast if u run suse9.0r take a look at pure-ftp.conf to enable external connections. (i'm just guessing) good luck

u may find out whether or not pure-ftpd is already running by
ps -e | grep pure-ftpd
did u try to start the server manually using
/usr/sbin/rcpure-ftpd start
or thru init? Is there another server listening on the same port?
Sorry for asking so many questions instead of supplying a short answer ;-)
