server


could someone plex put up a link for a dowmload to Linux server software. I have an a Dell Pc 2.8 (250ram ) which i am going to use as a servre

What services do you need to run. There are several different server packages out there. Each do a specific job.
Samba for network neighborhooding like in Windows
Apache or several others for a web server
Sendmail, dovecot, and many others for sending and recieveing email
Bind for DNS sevices, many other as well.

hi ,

i will be running my web site (*about 6 sites) some with data base

Do you even have a distribution in mind?

For a server, you would want something like Slackware or Debian, as lean and stable as possible.

For individual server applications, as Brian said, there are many many applications out there.

For a web server though, you will almost certainly be using Apache. For the database, I would assume MySQL, unless you are talking about something else.

HELP, what is a simple one , a freind sent me this mirrorservice.org/sites/mirror.centos.org/4.2/isos/i386/CentOS-4.2.ServerCD-i386.iso

Might goto a barnes and noble or other bookstore and see if they have any books on linux internet servers.

Yeah, I would advise you read up a bit more on this before you proceed. I get the impression you don't quite understand what is involved here.
