sendmail reports bounces but mail is successfully delivered

This is really wierd behavior. I hope someone has seen this or knows the answer. Some background:
I recently put all of my computers behind a router. They were directly connected to the internet (via the university LAN). sendmail worked perfectly. Once I installed the router, they no longer had real host names. So I got the normal errors about having an address that didn't show up on DNS. I fixed that...or at least I thought I did.

The setup:
I have all mail that is delivered to my computer forwarded to my e-mail account (e.g. sohmc[_AT_]cs.umd.edu). Manually sent mail from my computer (root@foxtrot, root@localhost) gets successfully parsed and forwarded to sohmc@cs.

Cron is the bigger problem. Some cron jobs successfully send mail to sohmc@cs without problems. Others, however return this error:

Code:
The original message was received at Tue, 6 Jul 2004 04:02:01 -0400
from localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]

    (expanded from: <root@foxtrot.student.umd.edu>)

----- Transcript of session follows -----
... while talking to dispatch.cs.umd.edu.:

Now the funny thing is, this bounce actually gets delivered to sohmc[_AT_]cs.umd.edu

It doesn't bounce back to root@localhost.

Thoughts? thanks!
