Sendmail Relay Setup Question

I am a linux newbie and am slowly learning my way around linux. I have a linux box and want to be able to email from it. COX Cable, my internet provider blocks a mail server (if I try to run one) so I want to set up Sendmail to send through COX (like outlook, etc does). I set up a smart host and I believe it is trying to work, but the 553 error message says COX doesn't think my domain (localhost.localdomain) exist. How can I set this up correctly?

Thanks,
Supergibbs

Somebody must have an answer for Supergibbs.
I'm in a similar position.
I want to be able to send text emails from my linux box (currently SuSE 9.1, but will be 9.2) to addresses like a.b@c.d via my ISP's relay.

Your help would be appreciated.
