sendmail questions..

I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction on createing v-users for sendmail.

I dont want them to have accounts on the server its self.
I would not be opposed to use mysql.. but would rather
it be file based.

I did see how to set up virtual hosting with sendmail.. but it only showd examples on how to map vusers to exsising users..

Thanks for your help...

Scott

An aliases file allows alternative names for users and creation of mailing lists.

/etc/mail/aliases

This file contains the list of aliases, when an email comes, the email address is checked with entries in aliases file it the name matched than the name is replaces
e.g.
helpdesk: bdear
info: barakat
sales: barakat
webmaster: bdear

So when the email comes as helpdesk@anet.net.sa or locally as helpdesk it's send to the mail box named bdear.

Hope this helps.

Well you could do the following. in your /etc/mail/virtusertable:
Quote:
user@domain.com domain.com/user
Then in /etc/aliases:
Quote:
domain.com/user: /var/spool/virtual/domain.com/user
You need vm-pop3d for that purpose. It can host virtual users. You will then need to mkdir /etc/virtual/domain.com and /var/spool/virtual/domain.com and set the permissions on /var/spool/virtual ...

After that just create a passwd file in /etc/virtual/domain.com (like the apache .htpasswd basic authentification files) and you're set.
